I wanna talk about studio etiquette. A local artist messaged me on Facebook, and it got me thinking.
I'm not trying to offend anyone who respects studio etiquette. Shoutout to you guys. But, some people DM you out of the blue, wanting to book a session right away, even after you've sent them the booking link multiple times. Personally, I can't drop everything for a last-minute session. I have a life too. It feels like they're trying to avoid paying the deposit. I only book without a deposit if there's trust. But, I prefer not to do it. I don't trust people who book last minute. If you're not serious about your music, use a mobile studio app instead of wasting time and money.
Imagine I agree to a session without a deposit, and you don't show up. It's frustrating because I trusted you and made an effort to be there. This issue affects both studio owners and freelance engineers. Missing a session can mean lost revenue or messing up the schedule. I don't take risks like that. No deposit, no session.
To make things simple, check the booking site, pay the deposit, and show up on time. It's crucial. You can't always make up for lost time. We use scheduling services for everyone's benefit. If you can't pay online, ask someone to do it for you. Cash App is free and easy to use. Consider trying SoundTrap, a free mobile studio by Spotify, for casual recording before hitting a professional studio.
Hope this helps, buddy.
